KATHUA, Dec 1: The Kathua District Boxing Championship, organized under the banner of J&K Amateur Boxing Association, Boxing Federation of India, and J&K Olympic Association, and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, was held with great success.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from boxers across various age groups, including Sub-Junior Boys & Girls, Junior Boys, Youth, and Elite Men & Women categories.
The opening ceremony was attended by the chief guest, Rishi Kumar, a prominent social worker, who praised the efforts of the organizers in promoting boxing at the grassroots level. Medals and certificates were presented to the winners by Sandeep Malhotra, while Naresh Kumar graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
The championship witnessed outstanding performances in all categories. In the Sub-Junior Boys’ category, the gold medals were won by Hassan Ali (30-33kg), Manjeet (33-36kg), Mohd Afzal (36-39kg), and Prikshat (39-42kg). The silver medals in the same category went to Nishant (30-33kg), Neeraj (33-36kg), Omkar Kushal (36-39kg), and Harshvardhan (39-42kg). In the Sub-Junior Girls’ category, Gunjan claimed the gold in the 30-33kg weight class, while Arshiya won the gold in the 33-36kg category. The silver medals were awarded to Navjot (30-33kg) and Prankit (33-36kg).
In the Junior Boys’ category, Parth clinched the gold in the 44-46kg weight class, while Harshant Juneja bagged the gold in the 60-63kg category. Udhak secured the gold in the 67-70kg weight class. The silver medals were won by Akhlak (44-46kg), Abinav (60-63kg), and Ishant (67-70kg).
The Elite Men’s category saw fierce competition, with Lovjeet emerging as the gold medalist. Hitesh Singh claimed the silver, and Saran Pareet won the bronze.
