KATRA, Nov 6: Kathua District Indian Style Wrestling Championship was organized by District Indian Style Wrestling Association under the aegis of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, sponsored by J&K State Sports Council at Bowelian near Ram Leela Ground, Kathua.
The Championship was held under the overall supervision of General Secretary J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Bansi Lal Tidyal.
Thirty six wrestlers participated in seven weight categories of 46Kg, 50Kg, 55Kg, 61Kg, 67Kg, 75Kg, and 85Kg in the event.
Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Jammu and Treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India, Shiv Kumar Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion who presented medals, certificates to the winners. Vice-Chairman Kathua District Sports Council Rajinder Singh (Babli) and Physical Education Master Kuldeep Singh were the guests of honour.
Director Competition, NIS Wrestling Coach Mulk Raj Sharma conducted the proceedings of the programme, while as vote of thanks was presented by Mr Tidyal. The bouts were officiated by Kuldeep Singh and Punjab Singh.
Shiv Kumar in his speech said that the Association will provide every possible help to the organizers for the development of the game of wrestling in the State, adding that the camps will be arranged for the wrestlers to help them hone their skill.
He said possibility will be explored for arranging coaching camps for the wrestlers in near future.
In 46Kg, Bar Din bagged gold and Kaka Singh won silver, while in 56 Kg, Maskeen Ali, Kuldeep Singh and Bhag Hussain claimed gold, silver and bronze medals respectively,.
In 55 Kg, gold, silver and bronze went to Nazir Ahmed, Shubham Kumar, Komal Singh/Amit Kumar, while in 61 Kg, Bupinder Singh won gold, Sadam Hussain bagged silver and the bronze went to Jatin Gupta and Salam Hussain.
In 67 Kg, Kamal Kumar and Jai Karan Singh bagged gold and silver respectively, while Akhay Kumnar and Teg Ali shared bronze and in 75 Kg, Zakir won gold and Anwar Ali claimed silver.
In 83 Kg, Sourav Badwal and Vijay Singh Choudhary bagged gold and silver respectively.
The overall Championship was claimed by Kumbri Kathera Akhara Kathua.
