Kathua lawyers boycott work in courts

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Jan 28: The lawyers in Kathua boycotted the work today and staged a protest demonstration against the administration for filing a case against a young lawyer who had led a protest demonstration in protest against 2013 Kishtwar  riots in Kathua during the same year.
The protestors also burnt the effigy of the district administration and accused it of backtracking from its promise made with the lawyers at that time that no one will be involved in any case. They said that by filing a case against the lawyer the administration was on the path of confrontation with lawyers. The protestors said that during the Kishtwar riots the police had misbehaved with the lawyers who held a protest demonstration in Kathua at that time.
They said though they had made a complaint with the administration in this regard at that time but instead taking action against the erring police officials they filed a case against the lawyers.
The lawyers said that they have been in past cooperating with police and had also lauded and appreciated the good work done by it. However, they also criticized the police when it found that police was ignoring its duties. However in future they warned that lawyers will not cooperate with police and take their battle from corridors of court to streets.
They alleged that young lawyer Atul Andotra has been made a target by the police and the same will not be tolerated.
They also warned that in case the police continues this behavior towards lawyers they will be forced to launch agitation.
