JAMMU, July 10: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta today slammed Yashwant Sinha, opposition’s candidate for Presidential poll for raising fingers against the Government over the tragic incident at Shri Amarnathji Shrine due to heavy downpour in the upper reaches.
In a statement issued to media persons, the BJP leader said that it is unbecoming of Yashwant Sinha for criticizing the Government over the tragic incident at the holy cave Shrine where 16 persons have lost lives and dozens of others are still missing. He said that it is unwarranted that the person who is in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to seek votes indulges in such a controversy because the occurrence of death and destruction at the Holy Shrine of Baba Barfani was due to a natural calamity, which is beyond anyone’s power. He said that the administration is working hard to carry out rescue operations and locate those who had gone missing.
Kavinder said that the reaction of Yashwant Sinha over this human tragedy is uncalled for and he should revisit what he has said in the matter. He said that Sinha has earlier raised questions over the surgical strikes thus making it amply clear that criticizing the Government over one issue or the other is his political compulsion and the same has nothing to do with the facts and figures. He said that the inappropriate behaviour of the candidate for the presidential post speaks of the difference between him and the candidate of the party in power Draupadi Murmu.
The former Deputy Chief Minister said the tenures of last three presidential candidates of BJP were non-controversial and the current candidate for presidential election Draupadi Murmu is also having an outstanding record making it necessary that her tenure as next President will also be unblemished and exceptional. He said that the Government has taken up the rescue operation at war footing and it would leave no stone unturned to provide relief to those affected by the unprecedented rainfall in the region.
