KC Public School emerge overall winner

JAMMU, Nov 17: KC Public School emerged overall winner of 2nd Shakuntla Rani Memorial Inter-School Basketball Tournament, which concluded today in the Sports complex of the school.
KC Public School emerged overall victorious of the tournament in both boys and girls categories defeating JP World School, Jammu by 38-18 and Army Public School Akhnoor by 22-08 points in the finals of the tournament in boys and girls categories respectively.
Earlier, in the semifinal, KC Public School Boys ousted JK Public School and JP World School defeated KC International to quality for the finals.
In girls category, KC Public School thrashed Jodhamal Public School to enter the final. In the second semis, APS Akhnoor outplayed Presentation Convent School.
On the valedictory function, Minister for Technical and Medical Education, Sports and Youth Services RS Chib was the chief guest, who distributed prizes among winner and runner up teams vis-à-vis medals and cash prizes were also handed over among the best players, referees and coaches of the participating schools in presence of Sudarshan Mahajan, Chairman of the school management and Raju Chowdhary, Vice Chairman, Director, Youth Services and Sports Jaipal Singh, Deputy Director, Youth Services and Sports, Ashok Kumar, faculty members and large number of sports lovers.
While speaking, Sports Minister highlighted the importance of sports and said that it plays vital role in shaping the personality of youth. He said the Union Government is mulling to include the marks obtained in sport activities in overall percentage of the student.
Chib said that the Government has taken various steps to construct and up-grade sports infrastructure for providing added facilities to the enthusiastic sports persons of the State.
He said an indoor Stadium is also coming up adjacent to MA Stadium for which an amount of Rs 13 crore has been allocated. Chib complimented the winning teams in particular and participating teams in general in the tournament.
In the tournament, eight CBSE affiliated schools competed for running trophies in both boys and girls categories.
The tournament commenced on November 6 in which 24 pool matches were played followed by two semifinals.
