KATHUA, July 3: Kathua District Chess Association (KDCA) organized district-level chess tournament at TDS College, here today.
Sanjeev Kumar (Police Inspector and also former State Athletics Champion) was the chief guest on the occasion while special guest was Atul Kumar Gupta (joint secretary, All India Chess Federation and working president of All J&K Chess Association).
In the Tournament, 5 rounds were played and a total of 90 players, particularly below 11 years of age, participated in the Tournament. Kathua district president Ravi Sharma organized the whole event with Swiss software as per International rules.
In Open Boys category, Paras Sharma won 1st prize, Anand Swaroop 2nd, Amandeep Singh 3rd and Shivam Verma 4th while in Open Girls, Mriganka Sangra stood 1st, Harsheen Kour 2nd, Ridhima Gupta 3rd and Priyal Sharma 4th.
In Under 14 Boys category, Sahil Mahajan secured 1st position, Rishant Jasrotiya 2nd, Sanyam Verma 3rd and Yakshit Gupta 4th whereas in Under 14 Girls, Manikarnika won 1st prize, Upkeerat 2nd, Tavleen 3rd and Monikska 4th.
Rajyawardhan, Jaiveer Singh and Hriday Sharma bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in Under 9 category while in Under 8 Boys category, Viraj Raina stood first, Anhad Singh 2nd and Anhad b Dhillon 3rd.
In Under 9 Girls, Aarvi Andotra bagged 1st position, Kaavya 2nd and Samridhi Andotra 3rd whereas in Under 8 Girls, Aradhya Rajput got 1st position and Ajitaa Gupta 2nd.
Kiaan won in Under 7 Boys category while as Avarana registered victory in Under 7 Girls category.
