JAMMU, Feb 24: Ajay Khajuria, Registrar Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) inaugurated Inter-House lawn tennis and badminton tournament being organized by the sports Department of the University.
The chief guest was accompanied by Ashok Kumar, Director Sports; Dr. Ajay Sharma, president Board of sports activities Ashok Kumar coach and was formally introduced to all players participating under men and women groups.
On this occasion two matches were played in Lawn Tennis and four in Badminton section.
In lawn tennis men’s singles, Ashish of Jal House defeated Prateek of Prithvi House by (4-0, 4-0) sets, while in women’s section, Dipti of Prithvi House got better of Sidhra of Jal House by ( 4-0, 4-3) sets.
In badminton men’s singles, Amandeep of Akash House lost to Swapan of Agni House by 15-21, 7-21), while in women’s section, Yamini of Akash defeated Sweda of Agni by 2 sets to nil. The final score was (21-14,21-17).
In mixed doubles, the team of Yamini and Amandeep trounced the team of Anup and Uneet by (21-18, 21-13) sets, while Akash House got 3 points and Agni House 1 point respectively.
Chief guest Ajay Khajuria and Director Sports, Ashok Kumar spoke on the occasion and threw light on the significance of holding sports and allied events.
It was also informed that SMVDU has deputed another boxing team for the Inter University Boxing Tournament to be held in the Lovely University Jalandhar.
The team comprising of Gunjan, Ankit Pandey and Kapil has been sponsored and will be escorted by Sucha Singh as coach.
