JAMMU, Jan 3: Despite a spectacular knock of 159 runs by J&K’s Shubham Khajuria, his effort went in vain as Chhattisgarh defeated Jammu and Kashmir by 7 wickets in a high-scoring encounter in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy at Dr YS Rajasekhara ACA VDCA Cricket Stadium, Vizag.
Khajuria’s 159, scored off 115 balls, which included 20 fours and 5 sixes, made him the highest scorer for J&K in all three formats of senior men’s cricket, surpassing his previous best of 255 in the Ranji Trophy and 85 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. Opening the innings with Vivrant Sharma (42), the pair added 100 runs for the first wicket in 15.4 overs. Khajuria then partnered with Musaif Ajaz (27) for another 100-run stand, propelling J&K to a total of 337 in 47.3 overs.
Chhattisgarh’s Ravi Kiran claimed 3 wickets, while Harsh Yadav and Gagandeep Singh picked up 2 wickets each. In reply, Chhattisgarh chased down the target in 48.3 overs, reaching 338/3, thanks to centuries from Ashutosh Singh (127 off 104 balls) and Sanjeet Desai (128 off 139 balls). PM Yadav added a quick-fire 51* off 33 balls, guiding Chhattisgarh to victory. J&K bowlers Auqib Nabi, Lone Nasir Muzaffar and Yudhvir Singh took one wicket each.
