Khalsa Warriors to face JKP in final of 5th Danna Memorial Tourney

JAMMU, Apr 29: Trouncing their rivals convincingly in the semifinals, Khalsa Warriors and J&K Police team have sealed berth in the finals and will meet each other in the summit clash of the ongoing Sant Gurbaksh Singh Danna Memorial Hockey Tournament, being played at KK Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium, here.
Earlier, in the first semifinal, J&K Police team defeated Pathankot XI in a close contest by a solitary goal (1-0). J&K Police team players with a blend of young and senior players managed to overpower their rivals in a tough contest.
The second semifinal between Khalsa Warriors Amritsar and New Gurdaspur XI was the match of the day which dazzled and mesmerized the spectators with their skill.  Speed and control over the ball was a treat to watch.
Khalsa Club played like a well knit and balanced side, scoring one goal in the first half and second in the 2nd half.
The final match between Khalsa Warriors Amritsar and J&K Police Hockey team will be played tomorrow at 5 pm at KK Hakhu Stadium.
Both the semifinals were officiated by SD Singh, S. Karanjit Singh, S. Jagjit Singh under the instructions from tournament Director Dalbir Mehta.
S. Simrandeep Singh, Chairman J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB) was the chief guest and Vinod Kumar, Director JK Channel (Gulistan) was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Simrandeep Singh highlighted the importance of outdoor games in this era of computer and mobile games.
He said that Hockey has a history of many events of glory and turbulence as well, adding that there were times when people of India had an eye on this game to win a solitary gold in international events.
He urged the youth to participate in sports and games for overall development of personality.
Surjit Kour, Sr. Leader PDP was the chief guest in the 2nd semifinal.
Former national players S. Manmohan Singh (CE Retd), SS Rajinder Singh, S. Iqbal Singh, S. Waryam Singh, S. Harbans Singh and S. Gurdeep Singh were also present on the occasion.
Some prominent persons who were present included S. Balvinder Singh RTI Activist, S. Amrik Singh, S. Paramjit Singh, S. Mohinder Singh, S. Kamaljit Singh, S. Satinder Singh, S. Sharanjit Singh and S. Manmohan Singh.
