CHANDIGARH, Sep 12: As many as 14 Olympic games have been covered under the newly launched ‘Mini Sports Centre Scheme’ with the objective to develop and promote sports at grassroots level under the Khelo India campaign.
These mini-sports centres will be run by former champion players under this scheme to train new players, registration for which is open at District Sports and Youth Program Officers’ office by September 30.
Sharing more information in this regard, an official spokesperson said, “The scheme covers 14 Olympic games, including archery, athletics, boxing, badminton, cycling, fencing, hockey, judo, rowing, shooting, swimming, table-tennis, weight lifting and wrestling etc. Apart from this, football and other sports can also be included in this scheme.”
“Under this scheme, Central Government will provide a one time amount of Rs five lakh to these Centres for maintenance of sports grounds, sports equipment and sports kits etc,” the spokesperson added.
Any district level institution which has worked to promote sports in the last five years or any national, international and former champion players can submit their application in the office of District Sports and Youth Program Officer under the scheme.
For this, if any sports institution and currently established training centre that is to be transformed into the Khelo India Mini Sports Centre, then the concerned organisation or centre can submit the required proposal, he added. (UNI)
