JAMMU, Oct 6: The sports competitions under Prime Minister’s Khelo India initiative were held in various blocks and zones of Jammu, Doda, Kargil, Samba and Poonch, today.
Following successful completion of Khelo India games competitions for Purmandal and Vijaypur blocks at sports stadium Smailpur, District Development Commissioner, Samba Sushma Chauhan today declared open the Khelo India games for Ramgarh and Vijaypur blocks at Sports Stadium Gurha Slathia in an impressive, colourful and well attended function.
Sports competitions as part of the Government of India’s Khelo India sports for peace and development initiative are envisaged to be held for all blocks of the District in a phased manner over the next one month in a bouquet of sports disciplines including Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Badminton, Kabaddi, Athletic, Wrestling, Football, Swimming, Hockey and Unified games. The competitions are being held in under 17, under 20 and above 20 age groups amongst the sports person who had registered for these competitions during an extensive registration drive carried out by the District administration prior to the holding of the games.The youth of the District have shown an overwhelming response for the games evidenced by more than 6500 registerations for team and individual events.More than 2000 athletes belonging to Ramgarh and Vijaypur blocks have registered for Khelo India sports competitions to be held at Gurha Slathia Stadium upto 12/10/2018
During the inaugural ceremony, the Khelo India flag was unfurled and the Khelo India games torch brought from Smailpur Stadium as a sequel to the conclusion of the the Block level Competitions for Purmandal and Bari Brahmana blocks was lit by the Deputy Commissioner in the Gurha Slathia stadium amidst thunderous applaud from participants and local crowd.The people from the adjoining villages who had gathered in large number in the stadium to cheer up the participants, also joined the joined the Deputy Commissioner and other officers in taking a pledge to promote sports in their life and also people around them.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner complimented the youth of the Vijaypur and Ramgarh blocks for showing keen interest in the sports activities by registering for the Khelo India events in such a large number and exhorted them to display their best in the upcoming sports events to be able to compete in district level events to be organised at Sports Stadium Samba.
On the occasion the Deputy commissioner was accompanied by Pankaj Magotra, Addl. District Development Commissioner Samba, Faisal Qureshi, Addl. SP. Samba, Aijaz Qaiser, ACD Samba, and other District and Block level Officers and officers from the Army, BSF and CRPF.A large gathering of the locals witnessed keenly contested matches which continued till late in the evening.
At Jammu, the competitions were held in the zones of Arnia, Rs Pura, Dansal, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Satwari, Marh and Miran Sahib, under the supervision of Zonal Physical Education Officers.
At Gandoh, District Administration Doda organised two days tournament under khelo India sports for peace and development under the overall supervision of Deputy CommissionerDoda Simrandeep Singh.
Sub Divisional Magistrates Gandoh Dil Mir was the chief guest on the occasion, while Block Development Officer Bhellessa Rafi Naik was the guest of honour.
SDM Gandoh appealed to the youth of the Tehsil Kahara to participate in large number in the competition.

Prominent among others present on the occasion were Major 4 RR Pardeep, Principal HSS Gandoh Pardeep Mouj, Zonal Sports Officer Salul-ul-Din were present on the occasion.
In volleyball Under-19 boys, HSS Sinoo beat HSS Gandoh, while in U-17 Volleyball HS Dhadkai defeated HSS Gandoh and in Kabaddi U-19 HSS Gandoh defeated HSS Sinoo.
In U-17 Kabaddi, HS Bhargi trounced HSS Sinoo.
In girls category, U-19 Kho-Kho, HSS Gandoh and in U-17 HS Kharangal emerged winners.
Today Rural Sports tournament under Khelo lndia for peace and development tournament concluded at BSF ground Mandi.
District Development Commissioner Poonch, Rahul Yadav was the chief guest on this occasion, while Commandant BSF Gajraj Ya0dav was the guest of honour. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Zahir Ahmed Rana, Tehsildar Mandi, Principal HSS Boys Mandi S. Rashpal Singh, Principal Girls HSS Mandi Jagdev Singh, ZPEO Sathra S Surinder Singh and ZPEO Mandi, Veerta Devi.
In stone lifting, Dilnawaz Ahmed got first, and Sajad bagged second place.
In wrist holding, Dilnawaz Ahmed got first and Sajad lqbal got second place.
In Tug of War, Panchayat Margai Bedar team got first and Panchayat Azmabad got second place respectively.
In Kabaddi, first semifinal Panchayat Mandi beat Panchayat Azmabad by 28 -13. In second semifinal, Bedar drubbed Tantray Club by 22-11.
In THE final, Tantray Club defeated Mandi Club by 27-22 in a crucial match.
Several sports events in Handball, Tennis Cricket, Volleyball and Kho-Kho, being played under ‘Khelo India initiative in the far-flung area of block Taisuru in district Kargil began today.
The tournaments are being organized by the Zonal Physical Education Officer, Taisuru under the banner of Khelo India (Sports for Peace and Development). More than 500 boys and girls players will get a chance to exhibit their talent in different games in the block.
On the occasion, the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Kargil, Mohammad Hussain Rehnuma highlighted the achievements registered under various sports disciplines in the district.
He said on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Vikas Kundal, efforts are afoot to promote the sports activities in the district. Zonal Physical Education Officer, Taisuru in his speech appreciated the role of Deputy Commissioner for organizing such events in the block under the Khelo India initiative.
The officer highlighted the achievements of the sports activities registered in Taisuru block during the current fiscal, so far.
