JAMMU, Feb 17: A one day awareness camp-cum-Kisan-Mela was organized by the J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans at Pandorian (Bishnah) today in which a large number of farmers participated.
All the wings of Agriculture and allied departments had laid their stalls wherefrom the Officers of Agriculture and allied sectors interacted with the farmers and guided them for adoption of new and innovative Agricultural technology for boosting their agricultural produce.
The gathering was addressed by MLA Radhay Sham Sharma, Vice Chairman, (Minister of State) J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans. He said that Government has initiated numerous measures for welfare of the farmers, the major being the constitution of J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans. He said that the Board has been set up to function as a bridge between the Government and the farmers to address their issues expeditiously.
He also expressed gratitude to the Finance Minister for providing incentives and concessions to agriculture sector in the budget proposals which depicts the intention of the present Government for its endeavour to focus in the State’s economic scenario.
He said while toll on fertilizers was exempted in the last year’s budget, Government has exempted VAT and Toll both on most of the agriculture implements during the current year. He said Government has initiated measures to exploit full potential of agriculture sector and the efforts would continue to make it highly promising and remunerative occupation for socio-economic development of the Kisans.
Laying stress on the research work to evolve hybrid varieties of fruit and vegetables, the Vice Chairman said that Scientists should focus on the varieties which suit to the local conditions.
The Vice Chairman asked the farmers to adopt Aloevera and Marigold flowers cultivation in a big way and apprised them that the Government has made requisite arrangements for proper marketing of these two crops. He said that an attractive component of subsidy is available for both these activities and farmers should take advantage of the scheme,
Besides the Vice Chairman Ashwani Sharma MLA Bishnah spoke on the occasion and appreciated the work of the Board. He suggested that it is the need of the hour to hold such Kisan melas/awareness camps in every nook and corner of the state so that farmers can take benefits out of the schemes meant for them.
M Sultan Shaheen Member Kisan Board from Kashmir also highlighted the aims and objectives of the Board.
