JAMMU, June 15: A 46 year-old Dr. Joneed Iqbal from remote village of Palmar in the mountainous district of Kishtwar has brought laurels to Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory by winning gold medal in Himalayan Stallion Sports Festival (HSF) held at Delhi.
The Bodybuilding Championship was held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from June 10 to 11 in which, Dr. Joneed Iqbal, won gold medal in ‘Masters Men’s Physique Category’. There were around 400 athletes participating in the event from across Asia.
Working as Medical Officer in remote Palmar village of Kishtwar, Dr. Iqbal said, “I was inspired by my father, who worked very hard throughout his life and retired as senior government official. I started training and gyming around 16 years back and since then it’s part of my life.”
“Being a doctor, I have huge responsibility while working in remote area, but I somehow managed to take out time for my passion and well and truly earned results are here. On the other hand, I have a great supporting system; my parents, wife, kids, my department and my gym partner Ajay Kumar. Without their whole hearted support, this was not at all possible.” He added.
Dr. Joneed Iqbal said he has completed his fundamental education from Palmar and Doda after that he moved to Dehradun for his professional degree in Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS).
He said, “I have added another feather to my cap by participating in ICN Mumbai Classic Bodybuilding Championship held earlier in May, 2023, in which I won two medals, a silver medal in Men’s Physique, and in the same competition, I won a bronze medal in ‘Masters Men’s Physique Category.”
“I have never used any muscle enhancing medicines or steroids. I have the honour to be the first athlete from entire erstwhile Doda region to win medals at national level. I believe the youngsters of today have the ability to ameliorate the physical standard of living. This strategy would keep them away from the prevailing evils of drug nuisance and other social evils.” he further added.
