KATHUA, Oct 13: J&K Kissan Tehreek members today met the Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and demanded compensation for the damaged crop in the area.
A delegation of the Tehreek, led by its provincial president Banarsi Dass met the DDC and discussed various problems being faced by the farming community in the district. They stressed that the farmers be provided relief/ compensation for the damage caused to their crops in view of recent rains and floods.
They also demanded that seeds, fertilizers and pesticides be provided to the farmers in time and regularly. They pointed out that massive damage has been caused to paddy crop in the area. The members also demanded pass books of the land records in favour of farmers, lifting of ban on Khair trees, increasing of wages under MGNREGA and implementation of Ravi river water agreement of 1979.
