JAMMU, Aug 25: Despite claims of boosting the sports activities in the State, the Government especially J&K State Sports Council failed to maintain the already existing KK Hakku Stadium, due to which hundreds of sportspersons have failed to practice their games.
As per sources, KK Hakku Stadium near University of Jammu has turned unsafe for the hockey players as the officials involved to maintain the stadium has turned blind eye towards it.
“A transformer feeding the tube-well at KK Hakku Stadium went out of order and it has not been repaired till date”, sources said, adding that due to this the watering of the turf could not be carried out.
Sources informed that the matter was taken up with the Stadium Incharge and other officials of the State Sports Council, but no action has been taken to repair the damaged transformer so far.
Sources further added that the Electric Department of the State Sports Council had sent a letter to Secretary to get the damaged transformer repaired, but due to unrest in Kashmir, the letter might have not reached to Secretary.
“The transformer was installed by J&K State Sports Council of its own, so this may be the reason that the Council could not take up the matter with Power Development Department (PDD)”, sources said, adding that hundreds of players use to practice in the stadium and are prone to the injuries.
The turf requires regular watering, but the process could not be carried out as the transformer feeding the tube-well got damaged”, the parents, whose children use to practice in the stadium told the EXCELSIOR.
“Sports Council has turned lethargic to repair the damaged transformer, which has created hindrance for their children to practice the games in the stadium, as the turf in the stadium, which needed to be watered regularly, has turned solid and can result into injuries to their wards, while practicing the game”, the parents said, adding that the Council’s lethargic approach is forcing them to lodge protest by not initiating immediate steps.
On the one hand, Government claims to promote sports in the Jammu and Kashmir, but on the other hand, it has failed to maintain the already existing infrastructure and one of the glaring examples is damaged transformer at KK Hakku Stadium.
“Who will be responsible if our children receive injuries while playing”, they questioned and asked the State Sports Council to get the damaged transformer repaired at the earliest, so that the turf can be maintained properly and the children can practice their games on regular basis.
When contacted Rajan Sharma, Divisional Sports Officer, J&K State Sports Council told the EXCELSIOR that the transformer feeding the tube-well has got damaged due to which the watering of the turf could not be carried out. He added that Engineering Wing of the Council has written about this to Secretary, State Sports Council.
He said that the damaged transformer will be repaired in the days to come so that the players can practice their games on regular basis.
