Pune, Dec 21: Kochi girl Elizabeth Susan Koshy shot 449 to defend the national title for women’s 50M rifle 3 position category at the ongoing 58th National Shooting Championships here today.
Haryana’s Anjum Moudgill finished second with a total of 445, while Commonwealth Games medallist Lujja Gauswami of Gujrat settled for the bronze medal shooting 433.3 at the Balewadi Shooting Range.
In the men’s 25m standard pistol championship, Olympic silver medallist Vijay Kumar took the pole position in the qualification round shooting a total of 571, while trailing him just by a point was Gurpreet Singh. Omkar Singh from the Navy was placed third with a total of 568. The finals for this category will be conducted tomorrow.
Maharshtra, which consisted of former world champion and Commonwealth Games medallists Tejaswini Sawant and Anjali Bhagwat along with Vedangi Tulzapurkar won the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event shooting 1714.
Railways finished second with a total of 1693, while the bronze medal went to BSF, who shot a total of 1680.
Moudgill might have missed out on the gold in the 50m rifle 3 position by a fair margin, but she made up for her loss by winning the yellow metal in the junior women’s category for the same event. She shot a total of 582 to become the new national champion in 50-metre rifles 3 position category, outclassing defending champion Elizabeth Susan Koshy.
Kerala girl Elizabeth Koshy finished second with a total of 578, while Sandhya W from Tamil Nadu bagged the bronze medal shooting a total of 566. In the team event Maharshtra won the gold with a total of 1664, while the silver medal went to Tamil Nadu with a total of 1663, and Punjab settled for the bronze medal with a total of 1618. (PTI)
