JAMMU, Jan 16: Jammu and Kashmir BJP general secretary (Org) Ashok Koul, while expressing concern over difficulties faced by the people due to recent snowfall in Valley, has stressed upon the administration to take effective measures and speed up operations to clear snow from the roads, ensure supply of essential items, maintain communication and much needed services.
In a statement issued here, today he said such steps should also be taken in hilly areas of erstwhile Doda district of Jammu region where people of far flung areas are also facing the problems due to heavy snow fall.
Ashok Koul said that the recent snowfall in the Valley has brought life to standstill as movement of the people has been restricted due to the bad weather conditions and it is the duty of the administration to ensure that there is adequate stock of cooking gas, petrol, diesel, necessary food items, uninterrupted supply of electricity and these commodities should be made available to the people not only in districts or towns but in every nook and corner.
Koul also asked for deputing at least one Advisor for Valley to supervise relief operations round the clock so that normal life comes on track and the people feel comfortable in taking up their daily activities.
Ashok Koul further said that the administration should also be more vigilant to make sure that the National Highway remains open so that the transportation of essential commodities to Valley is not disrupted and there is no black marketing of the food items.
He said it has been often seen that hoarders take advantage of NH closure during heavy snowfall and sell the food grains and other essentials on exorbitant rates.
