KPS’ concern over Govt’s apathy towards package employees, minorities in Valley

JAMMU, Oct 29: The Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) Jammu held a meeting today to review the situation emanating in the aftermath of the latest instances of forced migration of some Kashmiri Pandit families from the Valley.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of K. K. Khosa, president of the Sabha. The members noted with concern that in spite of viral videos in the social media as well as the visual media showing abandoning of their movable and immovable properties by these unfortunate families the local administration of district Shopian is in a state of complete denial of any such development. Already the PM package employees have been protesting for the past six months for the fulfillment of their legitimate demands after the Valley saw a spate of targeted killings mainly of minorities including that of their colleagues. Instead of sympathizing with the employees and allaying their fears the UT Government has been using all kinds of coercive measures including holding up of their salaries for the past four months in certain cases. The members expressed shock and disbelief over the manner in which the UT Government has been treating the package employees especially when their sense of security has received a big hit due to the targeted killings in the Valley including that of their colleagues.
The Kashmiri Pandit community has been yearning to return to the Valley and has been waiting for the Government to initiate the process in consultation with the community leadership. The members appealed the UT Government to have empathy towards those who are dependent on their salaries to take care of their families and release their up to date salaries at the earliest. The members also appealed the Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha that adequate compensation on humanitarian grounds should be given to the families of late Puran Krishan Bhat and late Sunil Pandita who were brutally killed during the past two months. Their registration as displaced families should be granted to them by the Relief Organization so that the loss of their only breadwinner does not leave them in wilderness and in a state of complete helplessness.
Those who attended the meeting include J. L. Zutshi, senior vice president, Ashwani Kaul (vice-president), S. L. Bagati (general secretary), G. J Kampassi (secretary), Subash Dhar, B. L. Tiku (treasure), Jitender Parimoo, Deepak Dhar, Anil Wakhloo, Asha Kitchloo, Prof. R. K. Ganjoo, Satish Khoda, V.K. Bakshi and V. K. Mukhi.
