KPS urges Govt to maintain tradition in declaring Shivratri holiday

JAMMU, Feb 23: Kashmiri Pandit Sabha today demanded that the Maha Shivratri holiday be declared on February 28 coinciding with Salam as per the age old tradition followed from centuries together.
In a statement issued here today K P Sabha chief, K K Khosa said that the Sabha organized a meeting with the authorities well versed with the subject to give its feed back to Government as sought from it for declaration of Maha Shivratri holiday and they endorsed that the Maha Shivratri festival falls on February 27 while the Salam on February 28.
Quoting the Har Ratri Nirnay of 1962 held under the aegis of Brahman Maha Mandal in which prominent Jyotiacharya/ Karamkandis including Ram Bhat Shastri, Jagar Nath Chandra, Govind Bhat Shastri, Prem Nath Shastri and Kashi Nath Ji had participated. The decision was published in a book form under the name Shivratri Nirnay as a once for all debate, after a marathon session.
The Sabha said that there needs to be no debate on the issue again and again to create a confusion among the community as the community members have made journey arrangements several months back for Maha Shivratri.
The Sabha has appealed the community to close the discussion and cerlebrate the festival on February 27. It also made an appeal to Government to maintaining the age old tradition in declaring the Maha Shivratri holiday.
