SRINAGAR, Oct 10: Three -days conference on ‘High energy emission from active galactic nuclei’ organized by Department of Physics in University of Kashmir, concluded today.
In his address at the valedictory function, the Vice Chancellor, KU, Prof Talat Ahmad stressed on interdisciplinary research in various fields of science so as to arrive at better conclusions and achieve the desired results.
While referring to the recent earthquakes and aftershocks witnessed in the State of Jammu and Kashmir along Kishtwar -Bhaderwah belt, Prof Talat said there was need to blend and integrate the research of Geo-Physics as well as Astro- Physics conducted along the Himalayan region so as to make the society earthquake resilient and avoid construction of such structures in future which can cause maximum damage to life and property.
The VC said that the University of Kashmir in collaboration is soon going to have seismometers installed across the State in such vulnerable areas and once these become operational these facilities could be accessed by various researchers and scientists of the world including the local ones for research purposes.
Prof Ajit Kembehavi, Director IUCAA, Pune and Prof Sri Kumar Director IIAP, Bengaluru also spoke on the occasion.
Head Department of Physics Prof S Javed Ahmad said that the conference was aimed at bringing together various researchers and scholars in the field of Astro-Physics to discuss and deliberate on various issues including X-ray and Gamma -ray properties of AGN, Implementation of VHE blazars, AGN phenomena: Disk & outflow and AGN physics with ASTROSAT & MACE/HAGAR telescopes.
Earlier Associate Professor in Deptt of Physics Dr Naseer Iqbal said that 60 research scholars from various parts of the country participated in the 3-day conference which was supported by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
