Kumar receives Bangladesh Liberation War honour for his late father

NEW DELHI, Dec 15:
Law and Justice Minister Ashwani Kumar received the Friends of Liberation War Award on behalf of his father Late Prabodh Chandra for his role in the historic War of Liberation in 1971 at a formal ceremony in Dhaka this morning,  an official release said here.
The award was handed over to him by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Dr Kumar has gone to Dhaka at the invitation of the Government of Bangladesh to attend the Liberation War Awards ceremony. Previous recipients of the awards included former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi, late I K Gujral and Babu Jagjivan Ram.
Soon after his arrival in the Bangladesh capital last evening, Dr Kumar called on Ms Hasina. He conveyed to her the greetings of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The Law Minister reiterated India’s commitment to develop the best possible relations with Bangladesh in all fields based on the principles of mutual respect, sovereignty and mutual benefit.
He said India attaches the highest importance to its relations with Bangladesh and was committed to resolving on priority all issues through consultation.
Dr Kumar complimented Ms Hasina for the rapid progress Bangladesh has made in all spheres under her leadership and her contribution to the strengthening of India-Bangladesh relations.
The Law Minister noted that immense progress in bilateral relations had been made following the historic visits of Ms Hasina to India in 2010 and Dr Singh to Bangladesh in 2011.  (UNI)
