Kuriakose inaugurates Inter-Church Cricket C’ship

JAMMU, July 6: Fr Kuriakose, Head Priest inaugurates Inter-Church Cricket Championship in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at Alexander School Ground, here today.
The tournament in which 12 teams drawn from different Churches of Jammu province are participating is being organized by Christian Sports Organization J&K, with the objective to divert the intention of the youths from drugs and alcohols towards sports and allied activities and help them not to derail from the mainstream. The slogan of the tournament is “Be Healthy-and Don’t Do Drugs”.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Pastor Vinod, Lal Gill, Benjamin, Sonu Donald, Moon Stephan, Elija Sotra, Naveen Athwal, Nitu Khokher, Amit, Robert, Rakul, Noni, Samson and Prince.
Meanwhile, in the inaugural match, Church of North India drubbed Pentecostal Church in opening match.
Earlier, batting first, Pentecostal Church scored 146 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 12 overs. Sunny Gill was the main scorer who scored 56 runs and hit 8 sixes in his inning, Danis and Nitish were the main batsmen who made 21 and 19 runs. For CNI Church, Ambrose and Elvis took 3 wickets each for their team.
In reply, CNI church chased the target in second last ball of the match by losing 9 wickets, Tiny, John and Rubain were the main scorer who scored 46, 27 and 28 runs respectively .For Pantecostal Church team, Sunny, Rohan and Binny took 6, 2, 2 wickets. Man of the match was awarded to Sunny of Church of North India.
The match was officiated by Sanjay Bhatti and Sandeep as umpires, while Rakul acted as scorer.
Earlier, in his address, Fr. Kuriakose lavished praise for the organizing team of the Christian Sports Organization J&K for conducting the Championship in Summer Vacations and provide opportunity to the youth to exhibit talent.
