*Demands early evacuation of pilgrims from Iran

NEW DELHI, Mar 17: A high level delegation from Ladakh lead by Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Member of Parliament from Ladakh called on S. Jaishankar, Union Minister for External Affairs, here today.
The delegation comprised of senior leaders from Kargil representing various religious and political parties as well as Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil.
The delegation requested the Minister to evacuate all the stranded pilgrims and Ladakhi students from Iran at an earliest. The delegation appraised the Minister about the problems being faced by the people of Ladakh stranded in Iran and also discussed the mechanism for their early evacuation.
After the discussion with the Minister, the delegation met Joint Secretary (PAI) of Ministry of External Affairs in South Block as per the directions by the Minister and chalked out the strategies of evacuation. The Indian Embassy in Iran also participated in the meeting via Audio Conference.
The Ministry assured to airlift all the stranded people of Ladakh from Iran to India.
Later, the delegation met at J&K House in Chanakyapuri and held online meeting with the group leaders of the stranded people of Ladakh in Iran.
After a threadbare discussion with the group leaders, the delegation advised them to extend full cooperation and support to Team India in Iran for their smooth and safe evacuation.
