Ladakh delegation, GOC 15 Corps call on Governor

SRINAGAR, June 18: A delegation led by Chering Dorjay, Minister for Co-operatives and Thupstan Chhewang, Member of Parliament, met Governor N N Vohra at the Raj Bhavan today.
The delegation apprised the Governor about difficulties being faced by the people in Ladakh due to the continuing cold weather conditions which have adversely affected agriculture and tourism; very high fares being charged by the airlines; need for a coordinated approach for ensuring that the benefits of PMSSS flow to all the regions of the State; establishment of IIT, IIM, AIIMS in Ladakh and issues relating to the breakdown of telecommunication services and the losses being incurred for the lack of timely release of funds by the State Government.
The Governor assured the delegation that their concerns would be duly taken up with the State Government.
Lt Gen Subrata Saha, GOC, 15 Corps also called on Governor. They discussed certain issues relating to the recent internal security developments and the security arrangements being made for the forthcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra.
Dr Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University in meeting with Governor briefed the latter about the functioning of the Institute of Kashmir Studies; the successful completion of the admissions to the various courses and the envisaged teaching schedules.
The Governor urged the Vice-Chancellor to arrange extra class work so that the time lost after the recent floods was fully made up. He also re-iterated the importance of ensuring that the off-site Campuses at Leh and Kargil were provided with experienced staff and get functioning this year.
Dr. Aziz Hajini, President, Adbi Markaz Kamraz and member Kashmiri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi also called on Mr Vohra and discussed the activities of the Adbi Markaz Kamraz and the Sahitya Akademi which are aimed at the promotion of Kashmiri language and literature.
The Governor re-iterated his concern about the need for well planned steps being taken to promote literary and cultural objections.
