Ladakh Scouts jawans win Khardungla Challenge Marathon

LEH, Sept 10: The 6th edition of Ladakh Marathon concluded successfully with 6000 participants from 27 different countries taking part in four different categories.
The Ladakh annual mega sport event organized by a local tour operators Rimo Expedition with the support of J&K Tourism, Hill Development Council and Bisleri, recognized by Association of International Marathon and Distant Races (AIMS). The two days event witnesses great success with participants enthusiastically participating in four different categories Khardungla Challenge (71.2 km, Full Marathon (41.1 km), Half Marathon (21.1 km) and 7 km Run for Fun. Ladakh Marathon has already helped many young Ladakhi youth to get job in the Indian Army.
In the Khardungla Challenge (71.2 km Ultra Marathon over the mighty 17,680 feet high Khardung La Pass considered as world’s highest motorable road) held on 9th September Shabir Hussain with BIT number 105 stood first with timing 06:23:50:26 followed by Rigzin Nurboo with 104 stood second position with timing 06:25:29:32 and Tsering Stobgyas BIT No 9106 with 06:34:14:18 stood third and all three top position holders were from Ladakh Scouts. Winner, runners-up and third position holder of Khardongla Challenge were awarded with cash price of Rs.50,000, Rs.30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
Khardungla Challenge winner Shabir Hussain said that Ladakh Marathon has helped Ladakh region to get International recognition and he had broke his own past record timing this time.
Expressing his delight over successful conduct of 6th Marathon Rimo Expedition Director Tsewang Motup Motup said that nearly 6000 participants from 27 different countries participated without any problems and he expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders for their support for successful conduct of mega event.
