LEH, Feb 14: The 5th Winter Tourism Promotion Ice Hockey Championship 2014 which was the last tournament of the 2013-14 winter season of Leh, was lifted by Ladakh Scouts Red team by defeating Devils Hockey Club (DHC) in a one-sided summit clash at Karzoo Ice Hockey Rink, here today. The winners dominated the final match with three successive goals scored by captain Rinchen Tundup (Haldu) in the first half. However, in the second half DHC managed to score 2 goals, but Ladakh Scouts Red fought back strongly with quick 4 goals, thus wining the final match by seven goals to two (7-2). Organized by Ladakh Winter Sports Club ( LWSC) in collaboration with Department of Tourism Leh, a total of 18 matches were played between 8 participating teams in the week-long tournament. During the concluding function, LWSC officials informed the audience that a twenty member team of Indian Ice Hockey Team lead by Head Coach of Indian Ice Hockey Team, Adam Sherlip (US) and Assistant Coach Abdul Hakim will leave India on February 21, 2014 to represent Indian team in the 2014 IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia in Kyrgyzstan. Executive Councilor for Tourism, Mohd Shafi Lassu was chief guest on the occasion. Councilor Upper Leh Gay Lobzang Nyantak, ADC, Leh Tsering Murup, Chief Executive Officer, Leh Development Authority Urgain Lundup, Head Coach of Indian Ice Hockey team Adam Sherlip, Jhoan from Belgium (Coach) and army officers were also present on the occasion. Later, the chief guest handed over title trophy and a cash prize of Rs 20,000 to the winners, while the runners-up received a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 15,000 from the chief guest. Rs 10,000 were presented to the ITBP team for bagging third position by defeating Skara Club in the hard-liner. Mushtaque Ahmad of DHC team won the Harish Bhargava Letsleh.com player of the year award and he was presented Rs 25,000.
