LEH, Sept 23: In a groundbreaking initiative to empower para-athletes and elevate India’s global presence in parasports, Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson, announced a partnership with the Aditya Mehta Foundation (AMF) to establish the world’s first high-altitude, high-performance para-sports center in Ladakh. The announcement, made during a visit to the Children with Special Needs School, was attended by AMF founder Aditya Mehta, DIG BSF DP Singh (Retd), and physiotherapist Asha Shaikh.
The center will leverage Ladakh’s high altitude to enhance athletes’ lung capacity and endurance, offering a world-class training environment crucial for preparing para-athletes for international competitions like the 2028 Paralympics. “Ladakh is poised to nurture world-class para-athletes,” stated CEC Gyalson, highlighting that this initiative will offer dignity and global recognition to athletes with disabilities.
The facility will cater to children with special needs from across India and beyond. While construction is underway, Gyalson urged AMF to begin early screening of potential athletes for training at their Hyderabad academy. This step aims to ensure that athletes are well-prepared for national and international events, including the 2028-29 Paralympics. This visionary project solidifies Ladakh’s commitment to inclusivity in sports and positions the region as a global hub for high-altitude para-athletic training.
