LEH, Jan 31: Tsering Angmo, the first woman General Secretary of a State Football Association in India, was honoured with the prestigious LG Gold Medal for Sports on Republic Day 2025. This recognition celebrates her immense contributions to the sports community, particularly in football, and highlights her pioneering role for women in sports administration.
Hailing from Sabu village in Ladakh, Angmo’s sporting journey began with Wushu, where she excelled internationally, winning a silver medal at the 2017 International Wushu Championship in Armenia. She also secured multiple gold and silver medals in national and state competitions.
Angmo’s vision extended beyond personal achievement, and she founded the Ladakh Football Association (LFA), where she served as General Secretary. Despite Ladakh’s challenging climate and limited infrastructure, Angmo spearheaded efforts to promote football through competitions, training camps, and grassroots initiatives, with a focus on empowering young girls to engage in the sport.
Her leadership journey led to significant roles at the national level, including Women Executive Member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Deputy Chairperson of the AIFF Women’s Committee. Angmo has also represented India as Head of Delegation for the U-17 Indian Squad at the AFC Asia Cup Qualifiers in Thailand. Her dedication has earned her several accolades, including the recent LG Gold Medal for Sports.
