JAMMU, Apr 9: In order to provide basic facilities by means of an all weather ice skating rink in Leh, LAHDC Leh today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ladakh Winter Sports Club, Leh , today.The MoU was signed by the Deputy Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer,  LAHDC, Leh Saugat Biswas, Tony Kretzschmar Ambassador, Ice Hockey Ladakh and president Ladakh Winter Sports Club, N A Gyapo in presence of Chief Executive Councilor, Rigzin Spalbar, Executive Councilor  for Youth & Sports Gyurmet Dorjey, Executive Councilor for Tourism Shaffi Lassu and members of LWSC and concerned officers.
Expounding in detail about the history and progress of Ice Hockey in Ladakh, CEC Rigzin Spabar said that in order to promote winter games in Leh, Council has been providing all necessary assistance to LWSC in promoting this game.
Tony Kretzschmar Ambassador, Ice Hockey Ladakh who is from Canada reiterated his commitment to help LWSC in all possible way by raising more funds and equipments and to start the fund raising programme he handed over a cheque of Rs 75000 to president LWSC, N A Gyapo.
Vice President of LWSC Tsering Mutup said that the way Ice Hockey game has progressed in Ladakh is beyond imagination and thanked LAHDC, Leh for giving opportunity to LWSC in carry out the construction work of ice hockey rink in Leh.
The MoU in due considerations of various aspects have arrived at the understandings in order to promote the game of Ice Hockey/Skating and completion, operation, maintenance, utilization and upkeep of the Rink.
The expert committee consisting of three members each from partner shall be constituted to see the management of the Rink, selection of team, permission, fixation of rent, coaching and conduct of tournament etc.
The Education and District Youth Services Department will be allowed to use the facilities without any objection, obstruction and impediments keeping in view the overall promotion of the game.
