JAMMU, Jan 7: The much-anticipated LAKSH Season 6 football tournament commenced at the Mini Stadium Parade Ground, here today, drawing a large crowd and setting an exciting tone for the season. The event was graced by Superintendent of Police City North, Vivek Shekhar Sharma, as the chief guest, who lauded the tournament’s noble cause of combining sportsmanship with meaningful social issues.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the LAKSH Trophy, an iconic symbol of football excellence, modeled after the prestigious Champions Trophy. This unveiling added grandeur to the occasion and inspired participating teams to compete fiercely for the coveted honor.
The opening day featured four exciting matches: FC Baroo defeated United Nubra FC by 6-1, MEWSL Academy triumphed over Star FC by 6-1, Reallona FC beat Northern FC by 4-1, and United Zanskar FC won against JT FC by 2-0.
In his address, SP Jammu emphasized that LAKSH Season 6 is not just a football tournament, but a movement aimed at steering youth away from issues like drug abuse and online gaming addiction, while promoting communal harmony. Sajeed Jafri, Founder Director of LAKSH Society Ladakh, praised the power of sports in bringing about positive change.
