JAMMU: Two persons, including a former over ground worker of (OGW) Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit, were arrested along with the contraband of Heroin in bordering Poonch district.
In view of high security alert on the last day of Assembly polling yesterday various nakas were laid in Poonch District to prevent any sort of sabotage act by the anti-national elements, a senior police official here today said.
He said that during checking of vehicles near Police Check Post Kalai on Poonch-Surankote road, one load carrier vehicle was intercepted.
During frisking 54 packets of narcotic drug (each weighing 1040 gins of high quality heroin) were recovered from the possessions of Shakeel Ahmed (driver) and Mohammad Rafi, both residents of village Danadoian Tehsil Mandi, District Poonch.
The police official said that the total weight of the consignment was 56 kg and 160 gm and the cost of heroin recovered, in international market, is Rs 56 crores and 16 lakh.
Rafi was also previously involved in various militancy related cases and remained 0GW of LeT and was actively involved in various anti-national activities.
A Case under FIR number 177 /2014 under sections 8/21/23 NDPS Act has been registered and investigations started.
The consignment can be used as part of narco-terrorism nexus running on the behest of Pakistan and ISI, he said. (AGENCIES)
