LEH, Dec, 29: As a part of Losar celebration Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) in collaboration with Department of Culture Academy Leh organised Tse-Tse (New Year’s Moon Watching Ceremony) here at Chowkhang Vihara to welcome the New Year Moon.
Losar is a special occasion for Ladakhis, which is celebrated enthusiastically and LBA started the Tse-Tse practice so that younger generation must know about customs and practices to maintain unique identity of Ladakhis.
The Tse-Tse celebration started with reception of chief guest Hill Council, Chairman, Gyal P.Wangyal accompanied by LBA president, P T Kunzang. They were accompanied by LBA vice president, Rinchen Namgyal, LBA general secretary, Sonam Dawa, LBA Women Wing Executive members headed by vice president, Tashi Yangchan, LBA Youth president, Konchok Ishey, Youth general secretary, Nurbu and SDM Khaltsi Tsering Motup.
This was followed by lighting of lamp “Chotmey” amid Lharna (traditional Musical offering). Beautifully attired in traditional dresses the artists from Ney village performed the Tse-Tse rituals in Chowkhang Vihara. Three Lama-Jogi enacted the act of referring the deity for it to take away ill-thoughts, illness and poverty from the region and bless the people and world with love, compassion, patience, good health and prosperity. Ney village which continues to practice and maintain Losar customs were specially invited to perform the Tse-Tse ceremony.
Soon after, LBA women representatives offered Yar (pinch of butter is marked on the rim of the Chang (local beer made from fermented barley) to participants with a request to take part in the Tse-Tse ceremony. Later, they came out of Chowkhang Vihara with various kinds of offerings to welcome the New Year’s first moon (Tse-Tse) followed by reciting prayers and dances. An act of evading away of misfortunes and illness is done by shooting an arrow.
On the auspicious occasion of Losar celebration LBA president, P T Kunzang congratulated the forces on border, paramilitary, students and all people of Ladakh. He added that this Losar makes more joyous with the grant of UT status to Ladakh and such celebration is to preserve our rich culture and tradition to showcase it to the younger generation. He also informed that on the invitation of LBA and LGA Dalai Lama promised to visit Ladakh during Summer to shower his blessing to the devotees.
Earlier during the day, LBA Youth Wing organised daylong cultural programme. LBA Youth president, Konchok said that the purpose of holding the musical show is to showcase the talent of students besides it would also help in cultural preservation.
