JAMMU, Dec 18: The Department Related Standing Committee (DRSC)-I of Legislative Council on Industries and Commerce Department today stressed the need for promotion of small scale industry in the State, especially in the uncovered potential areas.
The Committee, which met under the chairmanship of MLC, Bashir Ahmed Magray here today discussed and examined the physical and financial progress report submitted by the department.
Legislators, Ravinder Kumar Sharma, Nurboo Gialchan, Ghulam Qadir Pardesi and Aga Syed Ahmed Rizvi were present in the meeting.
The Committee suggested for launching of Silk Mission in the State on the pattern of Saffron and Basmati to promote this highly lucrative cottage industry. It observed that introduction of modern techniques through the mission will highly benefit the people associated with silk rearing and improve their socio-economic condition.
Threadbare discussion was held on progress and achievements of various wings of Industries and Commerce Department including Handicrafts, Handloom, SIDCO and SICOP.
The Committee also reviewed the pace of progress on the development and creation of new Industrial Estates, rehabilitation of Sick Industrial Units, land identified for setting industrial estates, incentives and subsidy offered to entrepreneurs.
Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Farooq Ahmed briefed the Committee about various activities of the department.
Among others, Directors, I&C, Jammu, Gulzar Ahmed Qureshi, Director, I&C, Kashmir, Javed Khan, Director, Handloom, Tsering Angchok, Director, Handicraft, Salma Hamid, Director, Geology and Mining, Farooq Ahmed Khan, Managing Director, JKI, JavidIqbal, Managing Director, SIDCO, M Muazzam, other heads of various wings of concerned department besides Additional Secretary, Legislative Council, Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and officers and officials of Council Secretariat were attended the meeting.
