Lecture on Jammu’s multicultural society marks AGM of IIPA

JAMMU, Jan 6: 38th Annual General Meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Regional Branch of IIPA, held here last evening wherein presentation of reports by the Hony Secretary Er J B S Johar and Hony Treasurer Vikrant Kuthiala were followed by discussion on the reports and future activities.
Dr Ashok Bhan, Patron and B R Sharma, Chairman IIPA J&K Regional Branch, addressed the AGM setting out future targets for the Branch in organizing activities aimed at capacity building for good governance.
Dr Ashok Bhan proposed that the annual activities of the branch should revolve around a specific theme and he suggested that for 2017 the branch should organize activities around “Inter Regional Harmony in the State of Jammu & Kashmir”. Further he suggested that emphasis should be laid on training programmes for the officers of the State, which helps in spreading contemporary thoughts among the officers.
The AGM was preceded by a very scholarly talk on “Jammu: the idea and ethos of a multicultural society” by Prof Rekha Choudhary. While speaking about the diversity of the State, she said that Jammu is like a mosaic and is one of the most diverse regions with layers of diversity in terms of religion, culture and language. She emphasized that there is a strong need to preserve the stories of partition as a phenomenon and appreciate the fact that people of the region have exhibited high tolerance and patience in preserving the diversity of the region.
