LeT militant arrested, arms and ammunition recovered in north Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A militant of Lashkher-e-Toiba (LeT) was arrested alongwith some arms and ammunition in apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla today, official sources said.

Meanwhile, an alleged stone-pelter of Anantnag was booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted to Jammu jail.

Official sources said that troops of 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and 177 battalion CRPF established a naka at Seer Amargarh road in Sopore.

However, when checking was being conducted, one person jumped the naka and fled away towards an orchard. However, security forces immediately cordoned off the area and overpowered the suspect.

During questioning, the suspected person admitted to have recently joined LeT after working for the outfit as Over Ground Worker (OGW) for some time. He was later identified as  Ishfaq Ahmad Kanna, son of Mohammad Shafi Kanna of Jamia-Qadeem Sopore.

Sources said one pistol with two magazines and three rounds of ammunition and four UBGL were recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old youth Irfan Khan from Anantnag district of south Kashmir has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted to a jail in Jammu. (AGENCIES)
