LeT planning attacks in Assam

GUWAHATI :  Pakistan-based terror outfit Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT) is planning to carry out violence in Assam and a group of local boys, trained in Bangladesh, have reportedly sneaked back into the state, to carry out the attack.
Police claimed here that several suspected LeT operatives have returned home after a gap of several years and are feared to be planning attacks in the state.
Kamrup (rural) District Superintendent of Police Indrani Baruah, in an interview to local channels here, said a group of boys of Rangiya-Baihata area, about 50 km from Guwahati, have reportedly returned home after a gap of 11-12 years.
These boys have suddenly returned home after 11 -12 years. We are monitoring them,? she said.   Police suspect that these boys had joined LeT and undergone training in Bangladesh and returned to carry out subversive activities here.
Another top police official, confirming intelligence report on possible LeT-triggered attack, said a key operative of the outfit, identified as one Raju, is leading the plans here.  We have information on possible LeT attempt to carry out violence and we have accordingly taken up security steps,? he said.
Meanwhile, police has also revealed about information on ULFA cadres trying to enter Guwahati ahead of Independence Day to carry out attack. A team of ULFA cadres is reportedly hiding in Nagaon and trying to sneak into Guwahati.
Security has been beefed up in Guwahati as well as its adjoining areas, especially in the run-up to Independence Day celebration.  Check-points have been set up at all entry and exit points as well as different locations in the city.
Search operations are also being carried out by security forces in areas where militants could be hiding. (AGENCIES)
