LEH, Feb 3: Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Radha Krishna Mathur inaugurated the 1st Ladakh Ice Climbing Festival (LICF) -2020 here.
LG was the chief guest on the occasion, while Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Gyal P Wangyal was the guest of honour.
Chief Medical Officer Leh Dr Motup Dorjey, President All Ladakh Tour Operator Association (ALTOA) Tsetan Angchuk, mountain climbers and sports enthusiasts were also present.
Lieutenant Governor, Mr Mathur lauded LMGA for their initiative of introducing the sport of ice-climbing.
He said Administration is committed to promote winter tourism in Ladakh, adding UT Administration would extend all help in the promotion of this sport.
Chairman/CEC LAHDC Leh, Mr Wangyal appreciated the organizers for putting their hard work and effort into this sport and fest.
Encouraging the sports lovers he gave the idea of also looking at the possibility of introducing snow-skiing here in Ladakh. “With the announcement of Rs 5,958 crores to Ladakh in the recent budget session, many aspirations of the people of Ladakh will be fulfilled,” observed Mr Wangyal adding that the Council will support them in their sports endeavour.
The 1st Ice- fest was organised by Ladakh Mountain Guide Association (LMGA) in collaboration with Himalayan Institute of Alternatives (HIAL) supported by LAHDC Leh, Department of Wildlife Protection UT Ladakh, ALTOA and RIMO Expeditions.
