SRINAGAR, June 11: The normal life in Kashmir valley was disrupted due to a day long strike called by hardline Hurriyat Conference to commemorate those killed in the summer agitation of 2010.
Shops and business establishments in the city centre of Lal Chowk and adjoining areas remained closed while schools across the valley remained shut due to strike.
The work in Government offices was affected as employees could not make it to their offices due to lack of adequate transport facilities.
However, many shops in civil lines area and in the outskirts of the city were open.
The Public transport was off the roads, however, privates cars and tourist vehicles were plying in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley.
The security in Srinagar and other sensitive areas of Kashmir valley was tightened to avoid any protests or trouble. Police was carrying out surprise checks of vehicles as part of security measure.
