KATRA, Mar 29: Continuing the tradition of fostering love of literature and writing amongst students, Department of Languages and Literature, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) celebrated Literature Festival “Lit Life 2016”, here today.
This Lit Life – 2016 focussed on women’s writing and featured sessions on short story, poetry and theatre. The short story session was the reading of one of the recent short story by notable Dogri writer Krishna Prem, followed by critical appraisal and comments by Dr Vandana Sharma. A Multilingual Session on Poetry featured reading of a Poem in Dogri by Prof Shashi Pathania and followed by critical comment by Prof Lalit Magotra. The session also had a reading of a poem in Hindi by Yogita Yadav, and reading of poem in Punjabi by Surinder Neer Punjabi.
It was followed by a session on poetry in translation wherein there was a reading of poem in Dogri by Prof Lalit Mangotra and English translation of the same was rendered by Suman Sharma. The session was followed by a special lecture on “Translator as Writer” by Suman K Sharma, who is Writer, Translator, newspaper columnist and one time spokesman of Indian UN Peacekeeping Contingent in Angola, Africa. A special lecture on Women in Theatre was delivered by Prof Rita Jitendra followed by session on Students and their Creativity.
The event saw a drama contest, poetry recitation, singing and other artistic ventures of the students of the university.
Earlier, in the inaugural session, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, Academy of Art, Culture and Languages was the chief guest while Prof Lalit Magotra was the guest of honour.
The Dean, Faculty of HSS and Head, Department of Languages and Literature, Dr Vandana Sharma highlighted the need of literariness in human life.
Dr Anurag Kumar from Department of Languages and Literature, delivered the vote of thanks while Diksha coordinated the proceedings.
