Live mortar shell recovered from school, defused

JAMMU, July 18: A major tragedy was averted after recovery of a live mortar shell from the compound of a Government school in Chandia area, falling under the jurisdiction of Kanachack police station.
As per police sources, a 51 mm live mortar shell was spotted in the Government Middle School, Chandia by the Principal, who informed the police.
After getting information, police team from Kanachack police station led by SHO Inspector Rajesh Sharma rushed to the spot and with the help of experts from Army defused the shell.
In the school, some work was going on in the school and the shell probably has reached the school compound along with the construction material.
However, Kanachack police has started investigation into the matter.
