LoC clearly marked in J&K: NSA

BANGALORE, Jan 21:
In the wake of skirmishes between Pakistani and Indian soldiers on the Line of Control in J&K, National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon today clarified that the LoC was clearly demarcated both on the map and on the ground and no one need to worry about it.
Two Indian soldiers were killed, one of whom was beheaded, allegedly by Pakistani soldiers on the Indian side of the LoC recently leading to outrage both in the Government and among people of the country.
To a question while delivery Dr Raja Ramanna Memorial Lecture at NIAS here, Mr Menon clarified that demarcation of LoC was clear. It is marked not just on the map but on the ground also.
“The fence is within our line. There is no doubt anywhere that where LoC is. It is clearly incripted to the North of the glacier in Saichen. People need not worry about it and we have clearly earmarked the LoC,” he said.
This comes contrary to recent claims that LoC was not properly fenced or demarcated leading to intrusion of Pakistan armymen.
On nuclear weapons, Mr Menon said India had built them only to deter others using the threat nuclear weapons against the country. “nuclear weapons are not war fighting weapons but a deterrent for the country. Now we have it and no body is talking about it. We are committed that there will not be a first use from our part. But we will massively retaliate if the same weapons are used against us,” he said.
