SAMBA, May 20: Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone, today asked the private players in education sector to adhere to the set norms to maintain education standards in the state which is fast emerging as an education hub.
Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of Inter-College Debate Competition on the topic “Can Working women be good mothers” here at Adarsh College of Education (ACE), the Minister assured all possible help from the government to the private educational institutions.
He said that Jammu and Kashmir was fast emerging as a hub of education with establishment of a number of universities and professional colleges in public and private sector and further progress in the sector can be expected only when the students coming here to pursue studies were provided better environment and adequate infrastructure.
Former Minister and MLA, S S Slathia, was the Special Invitee, while as SSP Samba ,Israr Khan, S. Pradeep Dutta, Bureau Chief J&K, Times Now TV News Ranjeet Kalra, Asstt. Directors Academic Staff College University of Jammu, were the guests of honour.
Earlier, the function started with lighting of Traditional Lamp followed by the welcome address by Chairman, Adarsh College of Education, A.K. Kapoor wherein he highlighted the achievements of the college. He said that the college management was organizing such events to boost the potential of the students.
The chief guest also released the College Newsletter “Adarsh Bulletin” & College Magazine “The Herald”.
The participating colleges in the debate competition were Adarsh College of Education, Hill people College of Education, Handa College of Education, Ranjit College of Education, New Modern College of Education, R M College of Education, Divya College of Education, Sacred Heart College of Education, Chenab College of Education, National College of Education, Calliope College of Education & Kawa College of Education.
The jury members for the Debate Competition were Dr. Seema Rohmetra, Sr. Asstt. Professor, Pol. Science, The Law School, University of Jammu, Dr G Q Sheikh, Professor in Education & Ashu Jolly, Asstt Prof Govt PG of Education, Canal Road.
Bindu Mathew from Calliope college of Education stood first while Pritika from Divya College of Education was declared Second and Mausmi from New Modern College of Education as third.
Two consolation prizes were given to Sahil Jacob from Adarsh College of Education & Baljot Kaur from Calliope College of Education
Chief Guest presented winning trophies to the winners and souvenirs to Guest & jury members.
