Losing teaches winning in sports: Ashiq Bukhari *Shahid CC outplays BRSCC to lift title

JAMMU, July 15: Quoting the popular Urdu saying ‘Girte Hai Shahswar He Maidan Jang Mein, Woh Tifl Kya Gire Jo Guthno Ke Bal Chale’, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) JKCA and retired DIG, Ashiq Hussain Bukhari said that winning and losing are part of the game, adding that it is losing which makes one perfect to win.
Mr Bukhari said this in the presence of Jang Bahadur Singh Jamwal, retired Judge and other dignitaries during the concluding ceremony of Samba District Cricket Tournament, as part of JKCA Premier Championship at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
Mr Bukhari was the chief guest on the occasion, while Sham Saroop Kalsotra and Goutam Singh Jamwal were the guests of honour.
Throwing light on cricketing extravaganza-JKCA Premier Championship, Mr Bukhari said that around 40,000 young and experienced cricketers took part in this mega event conducted across all 22 districts of the State.
He said initially it looked like an uphill task to hold the events in all the districts, but the energy and dynamism of the members of JKCA Committee including Jang Bahadur Singh, Sham Saroop and co made the historic event a cakewalk for all of us.
Assuring the gathering that there will be a transparent and comprehensive programme with regard to selection and coaching of the State teams, Mr Bukhari said that meritorious and deserving players will surely be picked in the party.
“Apart from Irfan Pathan and Milap Mewada, we will involve our own coaches and selectors to pick the best players,” Bukhari added.
Meanwhile, in Samba District final, Shahid Cricket Club defeated Brigadier Rajinder Singh Cricket Club by 5 wickets to win the title.
Batting first, BRSCC managed to score a modest total of 101 runs in the stipulated 25 overs. Gourav, Vinay and Sandeep Sharma contributed 18, 15 and 14 runs to the total respectively. For Shahid CC, Sachin was the pick of the bowlers, who took 2 wickets, while Suresh, Pankaj, Sushil, Surinder and Ankush claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Shahid Cricket Club chased the target easily in 17.4 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process, thus won the match by 5    wickets. Mohd Farooq Ahmed of Brigadier Rajinder Singh Cricket Club was adjudged as the best batsman for scoring around 150 runs, while Sushil Singh Slathia of Shahid Cricket Club was declared as the best bowler for scalping 11 wickets.
The matches were officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik, Saleem-ur-Rehman and Rahul, while the proceedings of the programme were conducted by Rajesh Dhar, Working Committee Member JKCA.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were the members of Samba District Organising Commitee namely Surinder Singh Bagal, former International Cricketer, Vishwanand, Rakesh Gupta and Rajeev, besides Jammu District Organising Committee Members including former Ranji Trophy Player Rajesh Gill, Chairman Media Committee JKCA Rajesh Dhar, Working Committee Member JKCA Vijay Sharma, Vijay Saberwal, Harsh Nayyar and Sachin Singh.
