LPG crisis evokes protest, road blocked for 6 hrs

POONCH, Oct 5: The LPG crisis evoked strong protest in the township of  Surankote where irate public blocked Jammu-Poonch highway and disrupted movement of traffic for over six hours today.
The order was restored only with the intervention of Deputy Commissioner,  Poonch Ajit Sahu and senior police officers who rushed to the town and convinced the people to resolve the crisis and ensure supply of LPG cylinders in Surankote tehsil.
The public got agitated after, the supply of the LPG cylinders at the local outlet in Surankote was abruptly stopped with the announcement of providing only six non-subsidized cylinders on September 14. The people were being asked to collect the same from Poonch after undergoing verification process.
The people today in large number came out on the road  and raised barricades at around 7 am and stopped the movement of vehicles. They started raising alogans against UPA Government at the Centre and Omar Govt in the State. A large number of vehicles got stranded for hours together. The road was cleared at around 1 pm when the DC himself arrived there with other senior officers and gave assurance to ensure supply at Surankote. He also suggested the people to under go verification process as initiated in the entire country.
