Lt Gen Hira takes over as CoS Northern command, Lt Gen Dua GOC 15 Corps

SRINAGAR:
Lt Gen Narinder Pal Singh Hira has taken over as the Chief of Staff (CoS) of Headquarter Northern Command at Udhampur while Lt Gen S K Dua will be the new GOC 15 Corps in Srinagar.
A defence ministry spokesman S D Goswami said that commissioned into Sikh Light Infantry in 1978, Lt Gen hira has a rich experience in Western and Eastern Theatre and also in counter insurgency both in Jammu and Kashmir and North East.
He commanded the Infantry Battalion in Assam, Brigade in Uri, Division in Akhnoor and Corps in Jalandhar. He has held many instructional and staff appointments in schools of Instruction and Headquarters. The General Officer has done all prestigious professional courses. The General is conferred with Ati  Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Sena Medal (SM).
Lt General S K Dua has been appointed new GOC of 15 Corps based at Srinagar. Present GOC Chinar Corps Lt General Subrata Saha has been moved to Army headquarter at New Delhi as Director General of Military Operations (DGMO).
Officials said that Lt Gen Saha and Lt Gen Dua called on Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan here.      Lt Gen Dua will take over as GOC tomorrow, they said. Mr Vohra and both the general discussed overall security situation in the valley, particularly situation on the Line of Control (LoC) .
Ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops, besides, infiltration attempt by militants from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) was also discussed. The Governor was informed about the measures taken to foil any infiltration bid from across the border, where a large number of militants are waiting to sneak into this side before the higher reaches are closed due to snowfall.
