Mahajan Sabha celebrates 148th Birth Anniversary of Lala Hans Raj

JAMMU, Oct 19: Mahajan Sabha, Channi Himmat, Jammu today organized its general body meeting and ‘Parivar Milan’ to celebrate 148th Birth Anniversary of Sher-e-Duggar, Lala Hans Raj Mahajan, a social reformer who created love, affection, brotherhood and social ties among the community members.
The function commenced with recitation of Gayatri Mantra and lighting of lamp of integrity and unity by president of the Sabha, Ashok Jandyal, senior-vice president, Raj Kumar Gupta, general secretary, Naresh Gupta and treasurer, Vinod Gupta.
The function was presided over by chief guest, Raman Bhalla, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, who paid tributes to late Lala Hans Raj Mahajan and Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan. While speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the contributions of both the pillars of Mahajan community and praised the contributions of Mahajan Sabha, Channi Himmat in eliminating social evils from the society and working for the welfare of the community.
The guest of honour, TR Gupta, in his address highlighted the social evils like dowry system, killing of female foetus, etc and appealed the community members to take oath to uproot these menaces from the society.
Earlier, president, Mahajan Sabha Channi Himmat, Jammu, Ashok Jandyal in his presidential address highlighted the activities undertaken by Mahajan Sabha, during his tenure. He also highlighted the achievements of the Sabha like establishment of Mahajan Marriage Bureau and free medical checkup centre, collection of donation from 550 Mahajan families residing in Channi Himmat and adjoining areas, and publication of Mahajan Telephone Directory
On the occasion, students of the community presented their views on the topics ‘dowry system’ and ‘killing of female foetus’ and ‘contribution of Lala Hans Raj to J&K’ State. Besides, a cultural programme reflecting Dogra culture was also presented by the students of JK Montessorie Senior Secondary School.
Later, the chief guest presented mementoes to Mahajan dignitaries and youths who excelled in various fields of life.
The youths who were awarded are Satyam Gupta, Ashish Gupta and Ujwal Gupta (in academic excellence), Krishna Mahajan, Pallav Gupta and Hitesh Langer (in sports), Sahil Gupta (in printing), Himanshi Gupta (KAS), Manish Gupta (CA Exams ), Ansila Gupta (BOPEE Exams).
Students namely Satyam Gupta, Tanisha Gupta, Ananya Gupta, Aashna Gupta, Sudhanshu Gupta, Shivika Mahajan and Tarnesh Gupta who presented their views on various social evils were also felicitated. Besides students of JK Montessorie Senior Secondary namely Hiral, Ananya Mansi, Ojasvi, Stitu, Kalpana, Taneesha, Navya, Muskan, Bhoomi, Aashima, Komal, Aakriti, Muskaan, Komal, Disksha, and Sargam, who presented a cultural programme, were also honoured.
Anil Gupta, Prof Sanjeev Gupta and social worker, Ravi Rohmetra were also felicitated for their active cooperation in the Sabha activities.
The Sabha also provided financial assistance to Mahajan widows.
The programme ended with vote of thanks by Raj Kumar Gupta. The programme was compered by secretary of the Sabha, Hirday Chander Vaid.
