REASI, July 6: Wrestler Shiva of Maharastra lifted 31st annual Korga Dangal title by defeating Benia Min of J&K Police (a resident of Basantgarh in Udhampur district) in the 1st malli main bout that lasted for 11 minutes at village Korga in Katra.
Winner of 1st malli bout wrestler Shiva was awarded with cash prize of Rs 61,000 while runner-up wrestler Benia Min got Rs 40,000.
Dangal was organized by Korga Dangal Committee in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association under the overall supervision of Jagdish Singh (president) and Sat Paul Verma (wrestling promoter).
The 2nd main bout was won by Rashid of Vijaypur (Akhara Domana, Jammu) who defeated wrestler Robbin of Kohali near Amritsar. Wrestler Rashid was awarded with cash prize of Rs 20,000 while runner-up wresler Robbin got Rs 15,000.
Nadeem of J&K Police (of Doda) won 3rd main bout by defeating wrestler Chandan of Kohali near Amritsar in Punjab. Wrestler Nadeem was awarded with cash prize of Rs 12,000 while runner-up wrestler Chandan got Rs 9,000.
The 4th bout was won by Surjit Singh of J&K Police (a resident of Narkote, Reasi) who defeated Maam Hussain of Domel. Surjit Singh was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 9,000 while runner-up wrestler Maam Hussain got Rs 6,000.
Prabhari Kissan Morcha J&K and BJP senior leader Nand Kishore Sharma graced the occasion as chief guest. He gave away cash prizes to the wrestlers. He also contributed Rs 11,000 as financial assistance to the organizers.
Former Joint Secretary of J&K State Sports Council and president of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma presided over the function. Ram Paul Sharma (a social activist) was the guest of honour.
In all 58 bouts were played in the day-long dangal and Rs 4,00,000 distributed in the shape of cash prizes among the wrestlers by the chief guest.
