Make sports important aspect of curriculum: Governor

JAMMU, Feb 21: N N Vohra, the Governor, inaugurated the Ist “Governor’s Inter-Collegiate Silver Rolling Volleyball Championship Trophy” at Government Degree College, Udhampur, today.
32 teams from the various Degree Colleges of the Jammu and Kashmir regions participated in the Championship.
The Governor, on the occasion, observed that sports activities should be an important part of the curriculum of all educational institutions which should strive to organize extensive sports activities.
Emphasizing the need of large participation of the youth in different sports and games, the Governor observed that physical exercise is essential as a healthy body and a sound mind go together for the balanced personality development of the students. The Governor said that the Sports Stadium being established at Katra by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board would soon be ready for hosting various sports championships.
The Governor witnessed the Exhibition volleyball match which was played between the teams of Government Degree Colleges of Udhampur and Baramulla.
He complimented the players for their talented performance and presented medals to them.
Mementoes were also presented to Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDU, Roshan Lal, Yash Paul, Kuldeep Singh, Amit Sharma and Manik Nargotra for their outstanding contribution in sports.
Earlier, on his arrival, the Governor was presented with Guard of Honour. The inaugural function started with the unfurling of The Championship Flag by the Governor. The Governor also unveiled the separate Championship Trophy for Boys and Girls instituted by him and interacted with the participating teams.
An impressive and high quality cultural programme, comprising folk dances State, was presented by the students of the Government Degree College Udhampur.
S S Bhalwal, Principal, Government Degree College presented the welcome address and Dr Tariq Ahmad Kawoos, Director Colleges, presented vote of thanks.
Navin K Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Yasha Mudgal, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur and Garib Dass, Deputy Inspector General, Udhampur- Reasi Range were present on the occasion.
