JAMMU, Dec 26: Chairman Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra, has directed the authorities of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to speed up the pace of progress on various developmental works in Jammu city, including those taken up under Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The Chairman issued these instructions during a meeting convened to take stock of the pace of progress of 28 developmental works including construction of Community Halls in congested areas of old city, lanes and drains, upgradation of parks, installation of street lights etc. for which the Chairman has provided Rs one crore from time to time out of his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) this year.
Expressing his anguish over the slow pace of work, the Chairman directed the authorities to submit a detailed report of expenditure incurred on the works including the present status within a fortnight.
The Chairman further directed the authorities to adhere to the earlier instructions and stop the menace of dumping garbage on Circular Road forthwith. He directed the authorities to identify few dumping sites for disposal of garbage in far-off areas to ensure that the city is kept neat and clean.
The Chairman was informed that Anganwari Hall, Julakha Mohalla has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs 4 lakh, while as work on construction of additional block for Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mubarak Mandi is in progress. He was also briefed that beautification of Purani Mandi park is in final stage.
It was also given out in the meeting that 15 new developmental works are being taken up in the city during the year of 2014-15 for which the funds stands already released.
Commissioner, JMC Kiran Watal, Additional Secretary Legislative Council Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, Executive Engineers of JMC besides senior officers of JMC and Council Secretariat attended the meeting.
