JAMMU, Sept 24: Maulana Azad Memorial College and Dean Students Welfare Cluster University, in collaboration with the J&K ThalassaemiaWelfare Society, Jammu, celebrated NSS Foundation Day by taking the pledge and organising blood donation camp at the college campus, here today.
The programme was organized by NCC and NSS units of MAM College under the patronage of Dr B B Anand, Principal of the college, who urged the community to actively participate in mitigating the sufferings of Thalassaemia children and preventing the birth of such children through genetic counselling and proper antenatal advice.
Dr Monika Sharma, Dean of Humanities and Liberal Arts, emphasized that the NSS aimed to promote the spirit of volunteerism, service and responsibility toward society.
Er Sudhir Sethi, President of J&K Thalassaemia Welfare Society, Jammu, emphasized the vital role of regular blood donation camps for Thalassaemia patients, highlighting the growing need for blood for frequent transfusions required by many patients. “This altruistic gesture holds the potential to significantly impact the lives of numerous lives combating Thalassaemia, a genetic blood disorder,” he said.
The whole event was organized by the collective efforts of Amitpal Kour (NSS Coordinator), Prof Lukesha Dubgotra (NSS PO), Dr Kailash Sharma (NSS PO) and Prof Shiv Kumar (NCC ANO). The initiative witnessed an impressive turnout from all the constituent colleges of Cluster University.
Dr Salve Sharma along with the Team of Transfusion Medicine Department, GMC Jammu oversaw and provided essential support at the blood donation camp.
More than 40 students and staff members from the college generously donated blood during the camp, showcasing acts of kindness and solidarity. Dr Sugandha Mahahan, Prof Sarita Dogra, Dr Rahul Kait and Dr Shubra Jamwal were also present at the event.
